SoundSAC Blog

Welcome to my first official blog post…ever. It’s a bit scary on several levels, and I have a lot to learn about blogging, but I’m forging ahead anyway. The picture of the Angel Warrior is a reminder to me that life takes courage, and we must go forward, even in the face of fear. The first question, (which involved a great deal of fear and far too much wallowing-in), was exactly when to start my new business, SoundSAC. Well, that question was answered for me, unexpectedly, joyfully, by way of the incredibly gifted, and totally Unstoppable, Joan Baker. I am eternally grateful for her, and to her.

A day before New Year’s Eve…6 days ago, Joan posted a photo of the “That’s Voiceover” SoundSAC I made for her and Rudy Gaskins. Her enthusiasm and kindness in posting on Instagram resulted in something I haven’t experienced before. There were many “likes” and requests on facebook to be connected, and on Instagram, and I didn’t even have an Instagram account yet! The response was record-breaking for me, and I consider it a sign that I’m going in the right direction.

I spent the rest of that day, and the remainder of this week, getting “all my ducks in a row”, in preparation to say, “Yes!”, to my future. What’s the saying? “Success is when preparation meets opportunity.”

Easily understood, but the truth is, it’s the single-minded, repetitive, focused-attention, day after day, hard work that produces not only the successes, but also the opportunities. There’s still so much to do before I’ll feel like I can take a breather, but for right now, all I can do, is the next step in front of me. That I can do. It’s a thing my friends and I call, “Baby Steps” (from the movie, “What About Bob?”), and it settles my stomach when I think of everything that needs to be done.

Starting a new business, and having to wear all of the hats, feels much like the plate-spinning, circus juggler who sets 20 plates on sticks in motion, then runs back and forth, re-spinning each plate right at the last possible moment, so it won’t crash to the floor. Experience has taught me that the best thing I can do is to keep calm and do good, and the plates will keep spinning. I endeavor to remember that excellence takes time, and to be patient with myself and others.

A Big THANK-YOU to my amazing family and friends who have always supported me, and continue to lift me up. You helped me discover, through your loving kindness, that isolation is not good for anyone, and that I needed to embrace life again. It took 10 years of very challenging times, surrender, and accepting the difficult lessons of life, to come to a place where I can now say I’m steadfast on a narrow path that is brave, simple, does good, and most importantly, serves others.

I hope you’ll join me on my website for this journey. The site is a work-in-progress, mostly working…so if you have any questions, please feel free to email me: denise@soundsac.com.

Best Regards, Denise
